so my mum recently paid £150 for a citroen xsara picasso 2.0 hdi and oh my god do i hate it, the pedals are so close together that when i use the clutch i press the brakes as well. also the £100 on welding that it needed the broken cv boot, the washers not working and the fact that every bolt and nut is so rusty that you snap them rather than undoing them.
today i replaced the cv boot and tires, i also did the washers for the windscreen..... i hate them.
the water in the washer bottle had been there for a long time unused.... it stunk and i got a mouth full when i pulled the motor out of the bottle, all the wiring for it is fucked. iv had to make my own small loom for the washer and wipers because almost every wire i found is broken in some way, so now the stalk works the wipers and a small button works the washers. originally i hoped a replacement stalk would fix the issue but then i remembers this is a french car with french wiring.
i have so many cuts and scrapes on my hands and arms from all the rough edges all over the car. but finally its done and going for its M.O.T now. hopefully it passes so it can be sold to the next
sucker
owner.
pictures of the kind of car i was working on just incase you have never seen one, thats not the actual car just some random pictures off google. if you ever have the urge to own one please seek medical advice.

Seriously, it was 150 quid, what do you expect, showroom condition? The fact that it runs and could possibly pass an MOT after just a few cheap bits being done is a miracle considering what it cost!

These are all things you can expect from a Citroen for 150£. I’m surprised it was drivable at all.

I saw a bunch of them on the road when I was in the UK, but other than an aesthetically pleasing and unusual shape, I wasn’t taken by them as such. Sounds like your mum found a real stinker.

An entire car for the price of new front brakes on a Mondeo? Wow ...

Must be nice getting an entire drivable car for less than $200.

15o. Complains about Citroen.
I paid about 100 for the buttons for the electric seats on my car.

That’s still a fantastic price for a car. I mean, what did you expect from a car that cheap?

It’s £150, for goodness sake!
If she wanted a better car, she might have had to spend, oh, maybe £300.

£150! That's a bargain if it was an undriveable rustheap, let alone a car that just needs a CV boot, some window washers, a set of tyres and a bit of wiring.

yes i know #firstworldproblems its a £150 car and its not going to be perfect or even close. its the fact of how rusty it is under all the trim, literally every bit of trim has rust under it.
i know im whining over nothing really but you know how it is. (or dont in some cases) its a 2001 plate car that shouldnt be that rust or broken, iv had some shit tip cars before but that just anoys me on how poor quality it all seems.

How many kilometers (or miles) does it have?
Anyway, in my own experience PSA cars of this vintage shouldn’t really rust that much. My own 2000 Peugeot 406 coupe is utterly rust free, with 270k on the odometer. Having said that, the Picasso is 15 years old and from what you’re describing it seems rather neglected. Do you know if it’s spend time near a sea/ocean or in a place where roads are salted frequently?

uk roads are salted for winter so that wont help, but it only has 110K miles, it has the usual picasso problems i.e electric windows are temperamental (suspect door loom) squeaks and rattles all over, crap wires and rust. i had a peugeot 306 xs for a few years and that lasted, would quiet like another at some point.
our DD is a 2000 vauxhall zafira and that dosnt have a speck of rust on it and all the nuts and bolts actually come undone rather than snapping
